New entries received to the following Summer Festival of Bridge events are now going to be put onto a Waiting List:

TBIB Open Swiss Pairs Championship
Penline 500 Swiss Pairs Championship
Novice Swiss Pairs Championship

These events are all scheduled for Saturday and Sunday 12/13 January. Players with confirmed entries are advised they have until close of business Monday 7 January to pay any outstanding entry fees on these three events to confirm their entry in the field.

The Early Bird Accommodation Rates at the Rex end on 31 October so players are advised to make their bookings before then if they want the best rates.

Players are advised that the table capacity at the Rex Hotel has been increased by about 13-15 tables for 2019. The extra space being utilized will also help relieve some of the congestion in the Great Room. Notwithstanding, players wishing to ensure their spot in the Swiss Pairs events on 12-13 January should get their fully paid entry in as soon as possible. Also, there are details below of a 6-week processing preference window for persons submitting fully paid entries to two or more events on the 2019 Program on or before 15 September. Online entries will open on 1 August 2018. All entries are logged by date and time of receipt and will be processed as follows:

  • Up to and including 15 September, persons lodging fully paid entries to at least TWO separate events will be accepted ahead of entries to just ONE event.
  • From 16 September all entries will be processed strictly in order of receipt unless varied later by subsequent advice to all players.

 • Accommodation at the Venue

We know that staying at the venue is important to many of our players so we have done our best to get you unfettered access to rooms and suites at the Rex Hotel at reasonable maximum prices. Expecting high demand from bridge players, the hotel has taken all the rooms and suites off the market for the time being so you will not find them for sale except on their online booking system. Booking engines such as Booking.com or Wotif.com will not have rooms for sale at the Rex during the Festival. The only way to book rooms or suites at the Rex for the period 9-18 January is directly with the Rex either online, by ringing or emailing their reservations staff using the process set out in the document How to Make your Hotel Booking at the Venue. The 2019 Rate Sheet for rooms and suites at the Canberra Rex is also available below.
