Linda Stern Women's and Bobby Evans Seniors' Teams

Posted by Marcia Scudder on Thursday, 6 November 2014 at 20:49

The entry to the Linda Stern Women's Teams was just 16 teams, a significant drop from 2013, and coincidentally identical to the entry in the Bobby Evans Seniors' Teams.

Rather than have a 9 round Swiss movement, a changed format was used.  For each event, the field was split into two pools, each of 8 teams.  A round robin of 7 matches was followed by a 40 board semi-final for the top two teams in each pool.  The remainder of each field then played two further rounds, against opponents from the other pool.

The results of the semi-finals were:

PITT (Helene PITT, Ruth TOBIN, Pauline EVANS, Greer TUCKER) 113 defeated KAPLAN (Rena KAPLAN, Eva CAPLAN, Di SMART, Felicity BEALE) 64.1

and

TRAVIS (Barbara TRAVIS, Candice GINSBERG, Margaret BOURKE, Sue LUSK) 106.1 defeated CAINS (Yvonne CAINS, Saima KING, Anne RUTTER, Jenny MICHAEL) 62

CAINS is a team from Port Macquarie who were very surprised to find themselves in the semi-finals.  It was lovely to see some new faces appearing at the top level in this event.
