Day 1 Finished

Day 1 Results

Day 1 has been completed.  It was a relatively light day with the Open, Women and Mixed playing two matches and the Seniors playing three.  In the lead up to the Championships, Australia, along with other countries, was invited to send a second Seniors Team to the event.  The ABF invited entries and the team of Peter Reynolds/Michael Smart, Elizabeth Havas/Dee Harley and Stephen Mendick/Bernie Waters was ratified to also represent Australia. It is entered as Australia B.

The Australian contingent at the Opening Ceremony are all looking happy and raring to go.

The Women's Team had a great start today and beat Korea (50-12) and New Zealand (22-17).  They are currently in 2nd place.

Our Open Team also had two wins, beating Japan (42-24) and New Zealand (57-24).  They are currently in 4th place, but only 3.5 VP's behind 1st place.

Not to be outdone, our Mixed Team also won both of its matches today, beating Chinese Taipei (21-7) and Philippines (26-21) and are in 4th place. Renee, Stephen, Peter (NPC), Pele and Jodi are pictured above.

The Seniors played three matches today.  Our A team lost to Chinese Taipei B (17-32), lost (barely) to Chinese Taipei A (15-16) and beat Australia B (16-13).  They are currently in 11th place.  Our B team beat New Zealand (42-30) and lost to India (11-20) and to Australia A (13-16) and are in 9th place.

Tomorrow, our Open and Mixed Teams will play three matches each, and the Women and Seniors will play four matches.

Good luck to all.
