2001 World Junior Pairs Championship, July 6-8

Results at http://www.worldbridge.org/

Australia is represented by David Wiltshire and Joshua Wyner, who won the Australian Youth Pairs in 2000. There are four sessions, from July 6 to 8. Then there is a week-long Bridge Camp, in western Poland.

The event has been held three times - in 1995 Geir Helgemo and Boye Brogeland from Norway won - both are now amongst the world's top bridge players. Geir travels the world playing bridge and is ranked #1 in the world in some quarters. Nowadays Boye runs a bridge club in Bergen.

In 1997 Stefan Solbrand from Sweden won - he also ran 2nd in the Dick Cummings Pairs Championship in Sydney last November. In 1999 Andreas Gloyer and Bernd Saurer from Austria won - they also won the first World Uni Cup last year, and Gloyer in particular has gone on to become one of Austria's top Open players. The only previous Australian entrants were Jason Pitt and Adam Sarten (about 35th in 1995 & in 1997).

Peter Gill has been invited to be an Assistant Organiser at the events in Poland.
