What should I Bid? - Best enquiry for January 2010 The best submission for January came from Peter Lewin. Hand 1: Dealer East, NS Vulnerable:
Comments: Does the opener show a
better hand if it doubles for spades? If the balancer doubles the worry is that
partner may raise the spades with only 3.
Sartaj's Reply:
Peter, Opener's double should show either extra shape or extra high-cards. Here with a high card minimum and no shortage in opponents' suit, opener has a clear pass. Responder should double to keep the auction alive. Opener cannot bid more than 2 so responder is safe even in the potential 4-3 spade fit. Sartaj Hans |
