Australian Teams Selection
2006 Open and Women's Playoffs
March 23-27, 2006

INFORMATION AND ENTRY FORM

The 2006 Australian Team Playoffs will be played as a pairs format with Butler scoring. There will be 16 pairs in each field. The Open field will consist of 14 pairs via PQP nomination and 2 via the Last Train Event (Canberra, January 19-20, 2006). The Women's field will be 16 pairs via PQP nomination.

There will be two stages. Stage 1 will comprise fifteen 12-board rounds. The pair winning stage 1 is an automatic selection for the Australian team and is exempted from stage 2; the bottom 3 pairs are eliminated from the event. The remaining 12 pairs will proceed to stage 2. Stage 2 will comprise eleven 12-board rounds, with carryover from stage 1. The pairs finishing first and second in stage 2 will form the remainder of the team.

The minimum qualification is Open, 18 PQP; Women, 16 PQP and each designated pair must have earned at least 1 PQP in the same unit. Nominations are ranked according by their Playoff Points calculated as the total PQP, discounted by 50% for PQP not earned by the designated pairs in the same unit.

Players must enter as a pair through the ABF website ONLY.

Each player is required to complete the declaration of availability/acceptance of conditions for the Playoff and must complete a further declaration including an indemnity agreement before representing Australia in a designated event.

Nominations will be published after the closing date and will be subject to confirmation.

Players in the twelve pairs ranked highest are entitled to a partial subsidy of $120 less than the cheapest internet airfare available on February 9th. The Canberra subsidy is set at a flat rate of $60.

The entry fee ($300 per player) less any travel subsidy will only be accepted at the venue prior to the commencement of play. Pairs will be liable for the entry fee immediately upon acceptance of their nomination regardless of whether they actually compete notwithstanding that it is payable on the first day.

The completed declaration of availability forms for each player must be submitted prior to the first session of the playoffs.

The target event for the winners of the 2006 Open/Women's Playoffs is:

PABF Championship, Shanghai, August 20-30
