Comments: Playing standard better minor with negative doubles. Obviously the question is whether to show the ratty 4 card heart suit with a negative double or limit your hand and show your flimsy spade stopper with 1NT. Also, does your answer change at IMPS?

And David's Response:
Hi Michael,
I reckon double is best here at MPS or IMPS, as otherwise any 44 heart fit will be lost. The double does not preclude your side from playing 1NT when partner has, perhaps, honour doubleton spade. If partner has Ace and a small spade, it will rightside NTs if he plays the contract. It is usually best for the stronger hand to be hidden.
Certainly at matchpoints it is very tempting to bid NTs as often as possible.
All the best,
David Beauchamp.
