Comments:     Does the opener show a better hand if it doubles for spades? If the balancer doubles the worry is that partner may raise the spades with only 3.

Peter,

Opener's double should show either extra shape or extra high-cards. Here with a high card minimum and no shortage in opponents' suit, opener has a clear pass.

Responder should double to keep the auction alive. Opener cannot bid more than 2spades so responder is safe even in the potential 4-3 spade fit.
