PRESS RELEASE - THE 2000 WORLD-WIDE BRIDGE CONTEST

Tuesday Feb 29, 2000

This year's contest is scheduled to be held on Friday, June 2nd and Saturday, June 3rd. Another similar contest, sponsored by MIND SPORTS ORGANISATION WORLDWIDE will also be held on August 22nd and 23rd.

Details of the events are sparse at this stage, but the initial advice is that the event will be scored locally using a program provided on CD (Windows 95/98 or NT). The results can then be uploaded directly to the WBF server via the internet or put on a floppy disc and sent to the Australian convener. (Presumably, there will be an option for manual scoring for those without access to a computer).

The cost per player, (and thus the cost for the participating clubs), is yet to be determined, but full details will be sent to all clubs as soon as the information is available.

If you would like to look at how the scoring is done, an example is available from the net on the following address:

http://bridge.ecats.co.uk

Simply click on the "Sims" button (bottom left); that will take you to a page where you can find the links to the results of the recent British events scored like this. Because the scoring is dynamic, until the event is declared "closed" the scores change all the time, and it is generating great excitement.

JOHN HANSEN, CONVENER.
